Miki Shima O.M.D. Traditional Acupuncture, Herbology & Oriental Medicine

Cass Hicks, L.Ac.

Cass Hicks

Cass has practiced acupuncture since 1992 with training in Five Element, Japanese and TCM systems, allowing for different approaches and a combination of techniques for each patient. Her focus is on the core energetic patterns and how they relate to our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Cass studied at The College of Traditional Acupuncture in the UK, concentrating on the Five Element system, which focuses on identifying the root cause of disease or imbalance. A diagnosis of the condition of each element is made in order to understand the balance between them. She studied under the late Dr. J.R. Worsley, founder of the Five Element acupuncture system, who dedicated his life to preserve the spirit of acupuncture practice.

Back in the USA she learned a second system of acupuncture and Chinese herbology at the Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This system is based on the theory of yin and yang, the two primal energetic forces of balance and continual change that can be seen in the universe, nature and in our bodies. When these forces are in balance, we are in a state of harmony and health, and when out of balance there is disharmony and disease. Acupuncture gives us the opportunity to touch on this interrelationship, and, therefore, supports the body in its healing process. Chinese herbology follows the same clinical diagnosis and treatment principle as TCM, and it can help to support the treatment as well as alleviate symptoms.

She completed an advanced theory and clinical course at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in the UK which focused on integrating the Five Element and TCM systems.

Cass also studied Tibetan Medicine in Dharmasala, India with the senior physician to the Dalai Lama, Dr. Tenzin Choedrak.

Cass has the honor of working with Dr. Miki Shima.  She has completed a formal 2 year course on Japanese acupuncture with Dr. Shima.  Dr. Shima's system of acupuncture offers diverse access to deep energetic pathways and new treatment possibilities.  His wealth of knowledge, experience and care for his patients is a great inspiration to her.

Chuang Tse (4th century BC Daoist thinker) wrote:

"Natures differ, and needs with them.  Hence the wise men of old did not lay down one measure for all."
